Gautier Family Cabin at Fern Hollow

The vision was to build a unique family retreat in the deep woods and ridges of the Ozark mountains.  In order to accomplish the task, it was important to team up with a contractor who understood and shared the vision of the architect and owner. In Curt Richardson and the StrongHold team, we found that team member.

From the time and effort spent in identifying and locating just the right type of stone to be used in the project to the identification and use of the locally milled eastern red cedar, Curt approached the project with an excitement and commitment that matched that of the owner and architect.  As with all projects of this nature, there were challenges, but all were met as a result of this team collaboration.

As the photos demonstrate, stonework is a StrongHold specialty and they are true artisans with stone. However, this project also allowed for demonstration of their excellent carpentry and wood-working skills.  All leading to a natural blend of stone and wood construction that compliments and adds to the unique mountain setting.

With the assistance and expertise of StrongHold, we achieved our vision and now look forward to many years of enjoyment at our family retreat.

Sometimes it can be tough for architects who love their work. We know that when our work is done, our projects will continue to stand in service to our clients, our communities, and our environment. We recognize the likelihood that the buildings we make will outlast all of us. Every day, we design buildings that will represent us to our next generation. So we try to make every project the best it can possibly be. We hope that the people who actually build the things we design care as much as we do. Sometimes they don’t.

On some occasions, the best occasions, we have to honor to entrust our work with craftspeople who not only deliver work that meets our expectations, but truly expand our aspirations for what a project can be. These collaborations are among the most gratifying experiences in our careers. Working with StrongHold has been one of these extraordinary experiences.

I’ve told Curt Richardson of Stronghold that I want him to know more about masonry than I do. I want him to tell me what is possible and what is feasible. I always want to have the best craftsmanship and business management on our projects. Curt and his crew always deliver more than I ask. His craftsmanship is precise, he delivers what he promises, and our interaction is always positive. His work makes the project better than I could imagine it. I consider StrongHold to be a true collaborator in our work. They love their work as much as we do…and it shows. I’ll be very happy to have the opportunity to work with StrongHold again anytime.
